Top Jobs, Top Career Fields - Hot Trends For the Next Decade

Unless you've been living in a nuclear fallout shelter for the past year and a half, you know that we're all living in a brave new world. What was once up (a.k.a. the stock market) is now down, what was down (a.k.a. mortgage rates) is now up. So what does this mean for you and your future? Don't worry. Change means, among other things, new growth and new job opportunities. There are plenty of great jobs out there, and we'll be the ones to help you find them.

After doing some homework, we've put together the following criteria (concerning jobs, industries, and training) to help you decide what career will be best for you not just tomorrow, but for the next decade.

Top Jobs

Want to know which jobs are growing so fast you practically need to pull out your fire extinguisher to cool them off? Take a look at the following list of top 30 jobs put together by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS):

? Biomedical engineers

? Network systems and data communications analysts

? Home health aides

? Personal and home care aides

? Financial examiners

? Medical scientists (excluding epidemiologists)

? Physician assistants

? Skin care specialists

? Biochemists and biophysicists

? Athletic trainers

? Physical therapist aides

? Dental hygienists

? Veterinary technologists and technicians

? Dental assistants

? Computer software engineers, applications

? Medical assistants

? Physical therapist assistants

? Veterinarians

? Self-enrichment education teachers

? Compliance officers, except agriculture, construction, health and safety, and transportation

? Occupational therapist aides

? Environmental engineers

? Pharmacy technicians

? Computer software engineers, systems software

? Survey researchers

? Physical therapists

? Personal financial advisors

? Environmental engineering technicians

? Occupational therapist assistants

? Fitness trainers and aerobics instructors

So how does the BLS figure out which jobs will be growing the fastest not just next year, but all the way through 2018? In the November 2009 issue of the Monthly Labor Review where the study results were originally published, author Kristina Bartsch explains they look at a number of factors, including which sectors of the economy will grow (such as the service-providing industries), which sectors will shrink (such as goods-producing sectors), and what kind of vacancies will be created as the workforce ages, retires or changes careers. Best of all? Bartsch says that, of the 30 jobs listed above, many have fewer educational or training requirements. (Being a personal trainer, for example, does require certification, but not necessarily a bachelor's in kinesiology.) This means you don't have to get take out more student loans and get another degree to work in one the future's top jobs.

Top Fields

Ok, so now we know which jobs are growing the fastest. But if you're not into one of the 30 jobs listed above, there's still hope. You can look at the industries that are booming and watch for your dream job to pop up in that sector. For example, if you're a communications director and you know that health care is an industry that's leading the pack, you can look for communications positions at hospitals, medical research facilities, health care groups-anything related to the healthcare industry.

Some of the tried-and-true favorites include (you guessed it) health care, technology, and education. These industries always seem to be growing, to the point that some call them recession-proof. But with the Department of Labor's (DOL) January 6 announcement regarding $100 million in Energy Training Partnership Grants, you can factor green jobs in that equation too. (By the way, that $100 million is in addition to $55 million given in November 2009, all as part of the Recovery Act. The Department of Labor expects to release funding for two remaining green grant award categories over the beginning of 2010.)

The DOL also listed the following among the fastest-growing industries through 2018:

? Management, scientific, and technical consulting services

? Individual and family services

? Home health care services

? Specialized design services

? Personal care services

? Outpatient, laboratory, and other ambulatory care services

? Facilities support services

? Software publishers

? Independent artists, writers and performers

? Local government passenger transit (CTA, anyone?)

? Scientific research and development services

? Waste management and remediation

? Community and vocational rehabilitation services

Top Trends in Training

If you're in school, going back to school, or thinking about going back to school, now's a great time to fine-tune your training. According to Dianna Middleton's Wall Street Journal article "Landing a Job of the Future takes a Two-Track Mind," companies will soon be looking for candidates with not just a vertical skill set, but a horizontal one. Traditional degrees, like computer engineering, will need to be paired with study or experience in emerging fields, such as online marketing or social media. In other words, those top-dog systems analysts may also need to know how manage their company's Twitter accounts, and veterinary technicians may need to be crossed trained in data entry and system management. So if you're pursuing a degree, consider taking a few classes in a new and emerging field that will help boost your resume and your skill set.

The point is that there are lots of opportunities out there, and not just to make a few bucks, but to find a career that you love and that will fit your lifestyle.

Religious Icon Jewelry a Hot Trend!

I visited the Long Beach Flea Market and Antiques Fair in Long Beach, California today and was immediately struck by a young man wearing a rosary bead necklace around his neck. (I just saw Justin Combs, P Diddy's son, wearing one on a TV show just an hour before that).

After walking into the event, I was immediately attracted to a table featuring Rosary Beads, Religious Charm Bracelets, Religious medals and many other Religious articles which apparently were selling quite well. I also did see this type of product at other stations within the Flea Market. In speaking with the proprietress, I learned that many of the Rosaries are of Bohemian Czech Glass and are being created in Bohemia by a very special family.

The Religious jewelry theme trend has been rearing its head for several seasons, and it was very strongly represented in the European Department and Specialty stores, especially in Paris as early as 2006.

I was visiting Paris to attend the Bijorcha jewelry show and spent some time shopping and scouting out trends featured by the Parisian jewelry designers. I came back from that trip with many ideas which were later incorporated into my collection for Jewelbox Designs.

Over the course of the last few weeks, I have come across several other young men wearing Rosary Beads around their necks. I tend to believe this trend will gain momentum into Spring, and we may see another rebirth of "Madonna Style" from the 80's as we approach the Fall 2010 Fashion Season.

New Hot Trends in Handmade Card Making For Autumn 2009

There are two new trends in handmade card making emerging at the moment - using A6 sized cards, and faux embossing.  And the biggest benefit of these new trends is that they will not cost you any money - in fact they will save you money in your card making! And in the current economic climate we can all do with saving a few pennies.

The first emerging trend is the size of cards. Recently large A4 cards have been in trend. Personally I was not a big fan of large cards, so I am extremely pleased that A6 cards are making a comeback! I've always been a fan of A6 cards and they are my preferred choice. An A6 sized card is still versatile, and it can have the complexity of larger cards. But, in my opinion, A6 cards can have a simple elegance that you simply cannot achieve with an oversized card. Posting A6 sized cards in the UK is also much easier and cheaper that A4 sized cards, even if they are heavily layered or decoupaged. The other huge benefit of smaller A6 cards is that need less materials to make them - smaller pieces of backing paper, smaller bits of card or paper for matting and layering, and smaller toppers. So not only will your cards look fantastic, but they will cost you less to make!

The second hot trend that you're going to be seeing a lot of is faux embossing. Basically, this is flat paper that looks like it has the texture and interest of embossing. And as with any new trend, buying the materials is never going to be cheap! But I have a few ideas to enable you to achieve your own faux embossing. Therefore you can save a bit of money, and also be ahead of the trend!

Most handmade card makers use embossing techniques on their cards sometimes. There are two main types of embossing - dry embossing and heat embossing. I'm not going to go into detail about how to achieve these two effects here. If you search the web you'll find lots of advice and tips. For the purpose of this article I'm going to presume that you are already an accomplished embosser!

How to achieve faux embossing can be described in a couple of paragraphs! It really is that simple. Without the need to go to the shops or order anything from the internet you can have made your first faux embossed card with an hour!

First you need to take a piece of paper. The first time I tried this technique I just used a cheap piece of coloured photocopying paper. I used the dry embossing technique to emboss the whole piece of paper. I used my Fiskars Shapeboss because that is what I had to hand! Once I had embossed the whole sheet (just as I would do to make a sheet of embossed backing paper), I used my all-in-one printer, scanner and photocopier to make a coloured photocopy of my embossed sheet. The printed image shows the embossing! And you have a faux embossed sheet of backing paper! That's it. It really is that simple. I also scanned in a copy of the image to store on my computer so I can easily use it again in the future, without having to emboss another sheet of paper. Give it a try - you'll be surprised how effective this technique is.

Internet Marketing Tips - Hot Trends For Instant Cash

Internet marketing is a great thing. You can literally make a fortune overnight with the right product. Okay, maybe not overnight, but pretty quick if you know what you're doing. And one of the best ways to find out what's hot and what to jump on is with Google Hot Trends. If you're not familiar with this bit of genius, I'm going to give you the two cent tour in this article.

Okay, so what is Google Hot Trends? Well, to put it simply, every hour, Google puts up a chart of the 100 hottest searches on the Internet. These are the things that people are really looking for. Now, the topics vary greatly. They can range from celebrity sightings to new technology to war breaking out. Hot Trends covers it all and the wonderful thing about it is that you never know what is going to be hot and for how long.

So how can we use this to capitalize on our marketing? Well, the best way to explain this is with an example. Just recently, a hot trend was on a new video game that was coming out. It was supposed to be one of the biggest releases of the year. So naturally, gamers were going to be looking for it. This was a perfect opportunity for a marketer to set up a site or maybe even a blog revolving around the release and then sell copies of the game through whatever affiliate program was making it available to marketers. Because the game was brand new, this was a perfect opportunity to take advantage of it because of the lack of competition in this area.

Some trends are easier to monetize than others. For example, some trends that revolve around political events such as wars are going to be hard to monetize since there is no product to sell or any way to get any income from it, such as with AdSense. So the key to using Hot Trends is to know WHAT Hot Trends to look for and how to go about monetizing them.

In my signature is a great resource that can help you master Hot Trends. I think you'll find it most helpful.

So hop on over to Google Hot Trends today and take a look at the site. I think you'll find it most interesting.

To YOUR Success,

Steven Wagenheim
